All About Mocha!

Once you meet Mocha, you understand why her name is just that. Mocha, the Mahogany Mami, and formerly Philly's midday personality at 103.9 The Beat, has taken radio by storm. The caramel-colored girl next door never has a dull moment on the air. Mocha and her addictive personality, infectious laughter, her sense of humor, and love of people captivates any audience. She is one of the sassiest but down home girls you would ever want to meet. "What you hear from 10a to 2p, is the same person you'll see outside of that studio. When you're fake, people can most definitely tell, and I love what I do too much to play myself out like that," says Mocha when asked what makes her so different.

That passion for her craft in radio is what make Mocha standout. She is genuine but sometimes soft-spoken, but do not let the voice fool you. Mocha is resilient. You can often hear Mocha speak out on controversial issues from abuse to women respecting themselves. Mocha has a passion for women and children's rights, and loves kids. She has been involved in the Raising Strong Sisters program in her spare time to try to spread positivity among young African-American teenage girls in Baltimore. Mocha emulates the strength of being an educated black woman just like her mentor's Oprah Winfrey and Cathy Hughes.

Mocha began as an intern in promotions at 92Q Jams in January of 1998, while attending Towson University. Determination, persistence, and pure ambition, lead Mocha to begin interning with Midday personality Dion three months later. In June of 1999, Mocha got a chance to shine. She landed her first shift on 92Q. The six-month transition from intern to on-air personality is unheard of these days. However, Mocha knows she is blessed and believes in her closing statement, "All things are possible through Him, who strengthens me, and he can also do the same thing for you too." Mocha has been focused on her career ever since the age of 14 when she emphatically declared that she would be a broadcaster. Mocha says, "The moment I put a mic in my hand, it was OVER!"

If you have ever been on the New York tri-state area, you were sure to hear Mocha on New York's infamous, WQHT, Hot 97. She has done everything from Mornings for the shock jock himself, Star, of the Star & Buckwild Morning show to filling in for Angie Martinez in the #1 rated Afternoon drive time position. "Being at Hot has molded me for better things to come. If you can work in New York, I swear you can make it anywhere," says Mocha. While holding down weekends in New York, Mocha also made a return to Baltimore. DJ Bee and Mocha were known as "Da Block" in Baltimore and changed the face of nights in Bmore in the time slot from 7p to 12a. Along with DJ Bee, they broadened the love of Hip Hop in a city well known for its love of Club Music.

Now full-filling her dreams, we have only seen the beginning from the woman who says she is "so FOCUSED." There is a lot more to come from a woman who is destined to become a household name. You can now hear Mocha every day in the Illadelph on Philly's 103.9 The Beat. "Yeaaaaa! I have my own show! ," cheers Mocha. In her spare time, Mocha likes to do what every "girly girl" does..... SHOP! "Mocha says, It's a bad habit that I need to break, free time equals shopping time!" She also loves to take day to pamper herself. "It sounds high maintenance, but every woman needs to get a manicure, pedicure, facial, and their hair done. Sometimes you just want to feel pretty!" When?s Mocha is not shopping or pampering, she does like to relax, cook up a great meal, and spend time with her friends and especially her family. "I have a niece that I love to pieces! She's my joy!"

What's next for Mocha? Only good things to come....
